Ella: Please would you please be able to give an overview of your business and what you provide for businesses?

Hannah: I started Jermedia just over six months ago. I left my 9-5 job and started up on my own from home. I look after predominantly skincare clients based in London and work closely with many different brands. I provide social media management for each of these accounts which includes content creation, scheduling, social media strategies and plans, giveaways, Instagram stories, customer service, engagement via comment responses and more.

Ella: Do you believe social media marketing is important for businesses and why?

Hannah: EVERY business should be using social media. If you aren’t already on it, you’re already way behind! Social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and ESPECIALLY Instagram help you connect with your current and potential customers, increase awareness about your brand, and boost your leads and sales too! With more than three billion people around the world using social media every month, it's no passing trend. Most social media advertising is cheaper than traditional advertising such as newspaper and magazine, so you don't have to spend a lot of money to reach more people, increase your audience, and ultimately grow your business.

Ella: Which platforms do you believe are the front runners in social media and why?

Hannah: Instagram is HOT for 2019. It’s trendy, current and everyone I know loves it. We all find ourselves endless scrolling our feeds and have become shamelessly addicted to new content by those we adore and aspire to be like. Instagram has added some fantastic features such as “Tap to Shop” making it super easy for people to shop the products they love, Instagram stories making it even easier to share things in real time, LIVE video facility – fab for Q & A’s and encouraging further interaction and so much more. The platform is making businesses huge money and it’s no wonder with it’s 1 billion + active monthly users!

Ella: Do you believe small businesses should be on social media and why?

Hannah: Social media is free (to a point!). It’s free to create a Facebook page, Twitter profile and Instagram Business Page… so why wouldn’t you? It’s another way to showcase your work and also potentially find new customers by either reaching out to them using targeted paid promotion or even just checking in on your competitors followers and interacting with them. If you aren’t in the game, you’ll lose….(especially as so many people search online for services they require.. whether it be a new local hair dresser or builder!)

Ella: What do you advise small companies to begin with when starting their social media journey?

Hannah: Start an Instagram page. Take some bright, clear, good quality images of your work. Add some relevant hashtags. Add a location to the post (this increases your chances of more likes) and follow relevant accounts you think will be interested in your business. Search by hashtags or even location and get liking and engaging with their content. Show off your brands personality and make some ‘friends’…

Ella: How would you rank engagement as an important technique for business to use on social media?

Hannah: SO important. This is your way of representing your brand online, engaging with people as your brand and showing off your personality. Replying to any comments and messages you get on your brand’s platforms is also very important. If it’s negative feedback – use it as a way to show off publicly how you will resolve the issue for the customer in a professional manner and if it’s positive – give back by thanking your customer. This will show that you appreciate the time they have taken to leave you the feedback and may encourage others to leave comments too.
